Energy
by Steven List
Welcome to February! This month, I want to talk about energy.
Not electricity or fuel for our houses and cars, but our own
personal energy levels.
Do you need to stoke your furnace? Get going a little better
in the morning? Avoid the need to nap in the afternoon?
I chose energy as a topic because I noticed lately that I have
been sleepy a lot. It seems that, if I sit still for a little
while, I start yawning and wanting a nap. Naps are great, but
I can’t afford to have one at 10:30 in the morning!
I started mentally checking what might have changed in my lifestyle,
as far as diet and exercise are concerned, especially. Well,
sure enough, I haven’t been exercising daily — or
even three times a week, which is considered the bare minimum!
And my diet? I realized I had let in a lot more refined sugar
than I am accustomed to eating. Darn those Double Stuf Oreos!
They’re
so good! Normally, I eat very few cookies and try to keep the
sugary snacks to a minimum. One or two a week.
Come to think of it, along with this sleepiness, I have gained
a couple of pounds. Okay, this is starting to look serious.
I hereby resolve to improve my diet, get more exercise, and — what
else can I do? Well, for one thing, I actually do need a little
more sleep than I am getting. You may recall from the July
(2) newsletter here at www.herbacall.com that the American Medical
Association recommends 7.5 to 8.5 hours of sleep every night
for most adults. Six hours just aren’t cutting it!
Okay, now we are on our way to some real changes. I am glad
that I have only gotten a little bit out of the normal, healthy
habits for myself. What about you? Do you suffer from a low energy
level?
Try the things I mentioned above. Plus, you may want to cut
back on caffeine. That’s right — cut back. You might
say, “But caffeine helps me stay awake!” It’s
true that, in the short-term, caffeine will keep you awake. And
there’s nothing wrong with a cup of coffee in the morning.
However, it’s hard on your body to be boosted by caffeine
all day and too much will eventually lead to sleeplessness and
nervousness, and it can even affect your kidneys. Caffeine is
naturally dehydrating, so even if you have one cup of coffee,
be sure to grab an extra glass of water.
And speaking of water, be sure to drink plenty. I’ve heard
it said that, if you feel sleepy or hungry, chances are that
you need water. I haven’t found that a glass of water keeps
me from a nap if I need one, but I know that staying hydrated
is healthy!
Another cause of low energy levels is vitamin and mineral deficiency.
I take several good supplements every day, which help my body
maintain its efficiency and health. You might want to consider:
Of course, if you feel severely depleted and chronically fatigued,
especially if the fatigue is accompanied by other symptoms, please
see your doctor.
I feel more energetic already! Remember, staying busy, but not
too busy, will also keep your spirits up and your energy level
high.
Nutrients That Burn Fat
by Dr Ramy Alnahhal
When we eat food, our bodies metabolise (burn) it to produce
the energy necessary for their normal functioning. If we eat
more than we need, the extra food gets stored as fat.
The food is metabolised through complex pathways, in which the
important players are numerous enzymes.
These enzymes depend on different minerals and vitamins to function
normally. You can help your system’s efficiency in turning
the food into energy rather than store it as fat by supplying
it with enough quantities of the vitamins and minerals that would
co-ordinate the energy-producing pathways.
To take an example, insulin is a very important hormone produced
by the pancreas. Its main role is to control the
blood sugar level. The mineral Zinc and vitamin B6 are needed
by the body to produce insulin. Furthermore, insulin itself needs
the mineral Chromium to be able to carry out its function properly.
By stabilising blood sugar level, you can help stabilise your
weight and also help prevent insulin resistance which can eventually
lead to Diabetes Mellitus.
Also, your body needs vitamins B, C and the mineral Magnesium
to be able to turn glucose into energy (rather than fat).
People usually don’t get enough of the above important
nutrients. So it’s a good idea to try to supplement them
in your diet, and to try to increase your intake of the foods
rich in them.
Another nutrient is Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), which is extracted
from the tamarind fruit (Garcinia cambogia).
HCA helps weight loss by inhibiting an enzyme which is necessary
in converting the sugar into fat. There is at least one study
that reported weight loss with the use of HCA.
The above should be part of a complete well-balanced diet, or
a weight-loss programme if you need to lose weight. I’m
sure we all know how important it’s to maintain a healthy
weight to prevent many grave consequences.
You can find the above supplements in two Herbalife products;
Thermojetics yellow tablets and Formula 2. Herbal ingredients
and top class technology are used to produce these supplements.
